How to replace disposable batteries in your hearing aids

Get tips and tricks to help you remove and replace the batteries in your hearing aids.

Before you start

There are four sizes of zinc air batteries used in hearing aids, and each has its own colour code on the battery package. The battery size you should use is given in the hearing aid’s instructions.

    Tip: Save your battery

    When you aren’t using your hearing aids, turn them off by leaving the battery drawer open.

      Removing the batteries

      Fully open the battery drawer and remove the used battery.

      Dispose of used hearing aid batteries according to local regulations.

      Remember that batteries and hearing aids should be kept out of reach of children and pets.

      Inserting new batteries.

      Remove the sticky label from the (+) side of the new battery.

      Wait two minutes before inserting each new battery so the battery can acclimatise, which helps make sure it will function optimally.

      If there is any moisture on the battery surface, wipe it off before use.

      Insert the new battery into the battery drawer.

      Make sure the (+) side is facing up.

      Close the battery drawer.

      The instrument will play a jingle through the earpiece as it starts up. Hold the earpiece close to your ear to listen for the jingle.
